Northwest Baptist Theological College (Northwest) was founded in 1934 as Western Baptist Bible College in Calgary, Alberta. After World War II (1945) Northwest relocated to Port Coquitlam, British Columbia and was renamed Northwest Baptist Bible College. In 1953 Northwest was reorganized and moved to Vancouver, British Columbia. In 1959 Northwest received its charter from the government of British Columbia allowing it to grant all theological degrees. At this time the name was officially changed to Northwest Baptist Theological College. In 1976 Northwest established an official graduate division under the name Northwest Baptist Theological Seminary. In 1987 Northwest along with Trinity Western University and Canadian Baptist Seminary founded The Associated Canadian Theological Schools (ACTS Seminaries) consortium and Northwest moved to the Trinity Western University campus in 1991. In 2000 Northwest suspended its undergraduate division but continued operating as Northwest Baptist Seminary. In 2014 Northwest Baptist Seminary attained its own accreditation from the Commission on Accrediting of the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) in the United States and Canada.
Northwest is an agency of The Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches in Western Canada.
Since 1959 Northwest grants theological degrees and diplomas under an Act passed by the Legislature of the Province of British Columbia. This was reaffirmed in 1984.
Since 1997 Northwest Baptist Seminary’s degree programs have been accredited by the Commission on Accrediting of the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) through a partnership with ACTS Seminaries.
Since June 2014 Northwest Baptist Seminary been independently accredited by the Commission on Accrediting of the Association of Theological Schools (ATS), and the following degree programs are approved: Immerse Master of Divinity, Korean Language Doctor of Ministry.

Northwest also has memberships in the Canadian Council of Christian Charities, Christian Higher Education Canada CHEC, and Evangelical Fellowship of Canada EFC.
Immerse is a partnership driven, competency-based, mentored, graduate level program where students must prove reasonable mastery of 27 clearly defined Ministry Leadership Outcomes. Transfer credits are granted on a per-Outcome basis up to a maximum of 1/3 of the total credit value of the Outcome.
